Hallyu, meaning Korean Wave, is a newly coined word that describes the phenomenon of fascination in Korean culture starting from China, Japan and Southeast Asia in 1990s. The leading icons are Korean pop singers and soap opera stars. After the first boom of Hallyu, its popularity has grown rapidly and spread beyond Asia to all over the world, which was demonstrated by the recent success of a K-pop Concert in Paris.
